Welcome to Ashland Oregon Rafting and Travel!
 |
Ashland is a northwest cultural center surrounded by national forests, beautiful mountains, and rushing streams. The town is home to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Wineries, and incredible whitewater rafting. Within a hundred-mile radius of Ashland is a mind-boggling array of natural playgrounds: the spectacular coast, 14,000’ Mt Shasta, Redwood and Crater Lake National Parks, and numerous wilderness areas.
The following are reviews, advice, and stories about Ashland, The Rogue River Valley, the surrounding area, and Ashland Oregon rafting information from the staff and friends of Momentum River Expeditions.

A grueling climb from the Ashland’s historic plaza (elevation 1900’) to the parking lot of Mt. Ashland ski area (elevation 6500’), this race pits hairly legged mountain bikers against lycra wearing roadies. The roadies head out of town towards Emigrant Lake to climb the Old Siskiyou Highway while the mountain bikers climb the forest service road. The race courses converge two miles from the finish line for a dramatic finish. This year the Mt. Ashland Hill Climb Bike Race will be held on Sunday, September 18th with a starting time of 9am.

Want to be the first one to hold the title of Mt Ashland king or queen? Then you’ll need the best combined time of the hill climb bike race AND the Mt Ashland Hill climb run. We look forward to seeing you out there! Sincerely, The Ashland Woodlands and Trails Association

Located near the nationally recognized historic town of Jacksonville, in the Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon, Valley View was originally established by pioneer Peter Britt in the 1850’s. The winery ended with Britt’s death in 1906, but the name was restored in 1972 by the Wisnovsky family for their vineyard and winery planted in the beautiful Applegate Valley. Valley View is now Southern Oregon’s oldest and most award winning winery, specializing in Rhone varietals such as Viognier, Syrah, and Roussanne, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Tempranillo.
Cheers, Michael Wisnovsky

Recently, I spent the day working with the owners of Ashland Mountain Adventures and a group of local, and not so local, downhillers working on existing trails in the area. What a great group of guys and an enjoyable day! I am a cross country rider and trail runner, but IÂ plan to take a ride to the top with this company one of these days.

Bloomsbury Books is a staple establishment in Ashland, Oregon. Borrowing the name from the early twentieth century literary posse, Bloomsbury offers a contemporary yet familiar feeling, scores of books, and a “clean, well-lighted place” to peruse thousands of crisp pages.Â
Bloomsbury is the kind of store that opens its arms wide. It is a place to stay, a place to read, a place to relax. It doesn’t overwhelm the senses like so many boutiques these days and isn’t designed to flip customers to make a profit.Â
The book sections are a collection of reasonable samplings of literature; not enough to get lost in and just enough to whet the appetite. If something is not in the stock it can be ordered and will arrive within 2 days.
Upstairs is the Bloomsbury Coffeehouse. It has become my second living room due to the uber friendly and sincere staff, the great coffee, and the delicious homemade soups, sandwiches, and salads. I enjoy working on my computer from one of the tucked away tables and the hours tick easily by as I listen to women practicing their French, an older couple sharing news stories, and the whish of the milk steamer. It is a small, european version of a restaurant, combined with grandma’s living room and flowered stuffed arm-chairs. Bloomsbury serves all the common staples of a good coffeehouse including breakfast burritos, sandwiches, salads.Â
Some choice bites:
black olive, spinach and fetta quiche,
apple walnut salad,
classic BLT sandwich,
homemade black bean chili
and my personal favorite – pumpkin pie all year round.Â
In the morning when I’m deciding where to plop myself for the day, my partner exclaims “I’ll come join you for a few hours if you go to you-know-where.”Â
“Bloomsbury?”
And so it is.Â
Bloomsbury is located at 290 East Main Street in Ashland, Oregon

Kobe is a Japanese restaurant located in downtown Ashland, Oregon overlooking Lithia Creek. The atmosphere in Kobe is a mixture of the best of Ashland: welcoming, bustling, casual, sophisticated, elegant, easy. No matter the mood however, Kobe always offers up delicious, high quality Japanese fare. Kobe has become a bi-weekly habit for me and friends due to the amazing and affordable happy hour menu offered from 5-6pm and 9-10pm.
Tonight’s orders:
Seaweed Salad $4
Edamame $3
Volcano Roll (tempura spicy tuna, topped volcano mix) $5
Dynamite Roll (albacore, avocado, topped dynamite mix) $5
Sake Steamed Clams $5
The only catch? Each person hoping to indulge in the excellence must also order a drink – what a shame. The cocktails are fresh, creative, strong and of big city caliber. Kobe also offers an impressive sake menu topped by local, organic Oregon sake from SakeOne in Forest Grove, Oregon.
Kobe is the kind of restaurant one leaves feeling satisfied and healthy, not overfull and regretful. I realize now that I have taken a Buddhist liking to Kobe – the website quotes:
when you find what is
wholesome and nourishing to you
partake in it often – Buddha
I certainly will, thank you.
